UNU Fellowsáfrom developing countries and some Central and Eastern European countries, that fulfil the requirements, receive fellowships financed by the Government of Iceland and the UNU to participate in the Six Month Training Programme. The fellowships cover international travel, tuition fees and per diem in Iceland. The Fellows, therefore, do not need other funds for their training.
The UNDP, the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as the European Union have also financed fellowships for several trainees through the years.á In recent years due to high demand for geothermal training, some private institutions and companies have paid for their employees to be trained in Iceland.á
The UNU-GTP does not offer fellowships to candidates from industrialized countries.
Furthermore, UNU-GTP offers an opportunity for outstanding Fellows to pursue their MSc and/or their PhD degree through a cooperation with the University of Iceland (UI) and ReykjavÝk University (RU). The Six Month Training Programme accounts 25% towards the MSc degree.
