Short Course on Borehole Geophysics for Geothermal Development

UNU-GTP conducted a Short Course on Borehole Geophysics for Geothermal Development in Ethiopia for selected employees of the Geological Survey of Ethopia (GSE) and the Geothermal Sector Development Project of Ethiopian Elelectric Power (EEP).á The short course was funded by the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs ľ ICEIDA and the Nordic Development Fund through the Geothermal Exploration Project, which has the objective of supporting geothermal exploration and capacity building in East Africa.

The course covered various aspects of well logging, well testing and reservoir monitoring and consisted of lectures, exercises and actual logging and testing of wells in the field.á It lasted two weeks, June 6-18, and was conducted in Addis Ababa, aside from two days of field work in the Aluto Langano geothermal field.á The short course was attended by 27 employees of GSE and EEP and lecturing was in the hands of Mr. Benedikt SteingrÝmsson, UNU-GTP Studies Board member and Mr. Thorsteinn Egilson, geophysicst at ═SOR ľ Iceland GeoSurvey.
