UNU-GTP Board

In 2014, the United Nations University, the Government of Iceland, and Orkustofnun (The National Energy Authority) signed an agreement to continue the United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme in Iceland under which the annual postgraduate training programme in geothermal energy shall be organised.

When the agreement was renewed in late 2014, extending the cooperation for further 5 years, one of the additions in the new agreement was that UNU-GTP should be governed by a Board.  Furthermore, the agreement stipulated that the Programme should be governed by a Board of three representatives, one from the United Nations University, one from Orkustofnun, one expert nominated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.  The representative of Orkustofnun should be the Chairman of the Board and the Director of the UNU-GTP should serve as ex officio member of the board.

This addition took reference in the governing procedures at the other Icelandic UNU Programmes, which all have a Board. The UNU-GTP Board meets 2-3 times a year.
